Society Kart vs foodpanda: Which Delivery App Fits Life in a Karachi Housing Society?
foodpanda is Pakistan's best-known food delivery brand. Society Kart is built for one thing: the shops inside your own housing society. Here is an honest, side-by-side look at how they differ and when each one makes sense.

If you live in a housing society in Karachi, you have probably ordered from foodpanda at least once. It is one of the most recognised delivery apps in Pakistan, with a huge choice of restaurants and its own grocery service in many cities. So why would anyone need another app?
The short answer: Society Kart is not trying to be a bigger foodpanda. It is built around a much smaller, more personal idea — connecting residents with the shops that already exist inside and right next to their own society, and with riders who live and work in the same neighbourhood. That changes a lot about how ordering feels day to day.
This guide compares the two honestly. Both apps have strengths. Our goal is to help you decide which one is the better fit for a particular order, not to pretend one is perfect.
A quick note on fairness: features, coverage and charges on any app change over time. Everything we say about foodpanda is general and based on publicly available information at the time of writing. Always check the foodpanda website or app for their current terms.
The big difference: city-wide marketplace vs society-first marketplace
foodpanda is a city-wide platform. When you open it, you see restaurants and stores from a wide area around you, ranked by things like distance, popularity and promotions. That breadth is its biggest advantage: if you want a specific chain restaurant across the city, a city-wide app is the natural choice.
Society Kart starts from the opposite end. It launches one society at a time, beginning with PNWHS, Bin Qasim, Karachi. The app shows the approved shops of that society: the restaurant in the main market, the kiryana store near your street, the bakery, the milk shop, the pharmacy, the chicken and meat shop, the juice corner. Many of these are places you already walk past every day, but which never had a simple way to take orders from residents.
Because everything is local, a few things follow naturally:
- Short distances. Orders travel within the society, not across the city.
- Familiar shops. You are often ordering from the same shopkeeper you already know.
- Local riders. Riders work inside the society they deliver to, which keeps routes short and familiar.

What you can order
On foodpanda
foodpanda is best known for restaurant food, and in many cities it also runs grocery and convenience delivery. If you want variety from across a large area — different cuisines, popular chains, late-night options — it is very strong.
On Society Kart
Society Kart covers the everyday needs of a household inside a society. The categories in the app include:
- Restaurants and home kitchens
- Mart and general store, grocery
- Fruits and vegetables, bakery
- Juice and beverages
- Chicken and meat, milk and dairy
- Pharmacy
- Home services, hardware, mobile accessories and more as shops join
The list is driven by what the shops in your society actually sell. If there is no pharmacy in the society yet, the app will not pretend there is one. You can see the live list on our Services page and browse approved shops on the Shops page.
The honest trade-off: Society Kart will usually have fewer choices than a city-wide app, especially for restaurants. What it offers instead is the shops closest to you, many of which are not listed anywhere else.
Charges and minimum order
Clear charges matter, especially for everyday orders like milk and bread.
On Society Kart, the current rules are simple and the same for every shop in the launch society:
- Minimum order: Rs. 500 of items per shop.
- Delivery charge: Rs. 100 per order.
- The delivery charge does not count towards the minimum. So Rs. 500 of groceries plus Rs. 100 delivery comes to Rs. 600.
New customers can also get a small first-order discount, shown in the app before you place the order. The How It Works page always shows the live amounts.
foodpanda's fees can vary by restaurant, distance, time of day and subscription plans. That flexibility can work in your favour (for example with promotions), but it also means the final amount depends on many factors. Check the checkout screen of any app before you confirm.
How payment works
This is one of the areas where Society Kart is deliberately simple.
You can pay in two ways:
1. Cash on Delivery — pay the rider when the order arrives. 2. JazzCash or Easypaisa to the rider's wallet — send the amount, upload the screenshot in the order, and the rider confirms the payment before handing over.
There is no card checkout inside Society Kart at the moment. We would rather be clear about that than promise something that is not ready. You can learn more about wallets on the official JazzCash and Easypaisa websites.
foodpanda typically supports a wider range of online payment options alongside cash. If paying by card is important to you, that is a real advantage for them today.
Order tracking and delivery
Both apps let you follow your order. On Society Kart the timeline is:
Placed → Accepted → Preparing → On the way → Delivered.
Each step changes only when the shop or rider actually does something in the app — the shop accepts, the rider picks up, the rider confirms delivery. You can also cancel within 60 seconds of placing an order directly from the order page; after that, the Refund and Cancellation Policy explains what happens.
A detail many customers like: Society Kart uses a 4-digit delivery code. The app shows it to you when you order, and the rider must enter it to complete the delivery. That makes sure the order is handed to the right person.

Privacy: who sees your phone number?
This is where Society Kart takes a firm position. Shops and riders never see your phone number, and you never see theirs. If you need to talk, you use in-app chat or free in-app calls that are linked to the order. Phone numbers typed into chats are automatically blocked, and voice notes in order chats are deleted once the order is finished.
Why does this matter in a housing society? Because the people delivering to you are your neighbours. Keeping contact inside the app protects customers, especially women and families, and also protects shop owners and riders from late-night personal calls.

Support when something goes wrong
Society Kart's Help & Support starts with an AI Assistant that can check your order, answer common questions in English, Urdu, Roman Urdu or Arabic, and hand the conversation to a person with one tap. You can also reach the team through the contact form.
Large apps like foodpanda have big, well-established support teams and processes. A local app's advantage is that problems are usually about a shop or rider in your own society — which can often be resolved quickly because everyone is nearby.
For shop owners: a very different deal
If you run a shop in a society, the difference between the two models is even bigger.
On Society Kart:
- Shops pay a flat platform fee of Rs. 30 per completed order — once per order, not per item.
- The fee is recorded as dues in the shop's earnings screen and paid with a screenshot that an admin approves.
- Shops manage their own menu, prices, photos and weekly opening hours, and get order notifications in the app.
Large marketplaces commonly use percentage-based commissions and their own terms. For a small kiryana store or home kitchen, a flat, predictable fee can be much easier to plan around. See Become a Shop Partner for details.
